A sales funnel is an important concept for marketers to understand. It’s a way of defining the customer journey from initial awareness to conversion and allows you to optimize each stage.
The end result is a more targeted selection of leads that your team has a much better chance of selling to than a large, random group of people.
A successful marketing strategy requires you to capture the attention of your audience across online and offline platforms. This can be achieved through compelling content that captivates the imagination, offers solutions, and creates desire.
The content used in the different stages of the sales funnel can be organic (website, blog posts, email newsletters, SEO), paid (social media ads, targeted keywords, influencer content), or a combination of both.
Once a consumer has moved through the first three stages of your sales funnel, they become a prospect or lead. At this point, they’re aware of your product or service and have demonstrated interest in it by visiting your website and/or social channels.
They may also have engaged with your brand in some other way, such as signing up for an email newsletter or attending an event.
Your goal at this stage is to convert this potential client into a qualified lead by using your marketing resources to nurture them and help them along their journey. This can be done with a variety of tactics, including downloadable resources that educate them on the topic of the page they landed on, offering free tools that solve their problems, or offering a discount on your product or services to encourage a purchase.
Having nurtured your leads and provided them with the resources they need, you can now move them into the final phase of your sales funnel: the Decision stage. At this point, your lead has proven that they’re interested in your product or service and have conducted sufficient research to decide whether it’s the right fit for them.
It’s at this stage that you’ll likely use persuasive strategies, such as highlighting the return they can expect on their investment or reminding them of an item they left in their cart.
By capturing your audience’s attention, developing an engaging content strategy for the various sales funnel stages, and orchestrating automated campaigns to reach prospective customers at their ideal time, you can maximize the conversion rates of each stage and ultimately grow your business.
